Original watercolor painted in 2014. This painting is based on a statute at Manassas (Bull Run) Civil War battlefield, erected to honor General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, second only to Robert E. Lee in the Confederate pantheon. Jackson earned the nickname "Stonewall" at this battle July 21, 1861. General Bernard Bee's troops were being routed by the Union forces when General Jackson rallied his men to hold the position. General Bee said "There stands Jackson like a Stonewall". Jackson was later killed by friendly fire at the battle of Chancellorsville in 1863. The statue is smoking a cigar by the way.
